Phased - A Sort of Spasmic Phlegm Induced By Leaden Fumes of Pleasure
A Sort of Spasmic Phlegm Induced By Leaden Fumes of Pleasure
My problem with the last album by Switzerland’s Phased was that the music on the disk didn’t quite live up the psychedelic potential of the band’s name. The vaguely trippy meat-and-potatoes hard rock, satisfying as it was on its own terms, wasn’t what I wanted out of a group sobriquet that promised phlights of phancy that phaded in and out of another dimension. Perhaps the trio realized this, because the marvelously named A Sort of Spasmic Phlegm Induced By Leaden Fumes of Pleasure is far more overtly lysergic. There are plenty grinding hard rock riffs in I Come Toulouse, A Surreal Deal and The Need, but they’re balanced by the kosmik Krautrock of Rim Shot to Infinity, the ether travel of Nachspiel Revisited I & II and the acid-drenched splatter of the epic Maelstrom. This is the Phased album I was hoping phor, pstrong and psychedelic.
